Thumbnail Images
----------------
Pasokon TV can hold up to 10 images ready for immediate access.
A miniture "thumbnail" version of each appears along the bottom
of the screen. If your computer does not have enough physical
memory (RAM) to hold all of them in memory, they are swapped
out to disk and brought back in automatically as needed.
The number thumbnail images is set by the "Thumbnail Images"
item on the Setup menu. The setting is saved for the next
session with the "IMAGES" command in the PKTV.CFG configuration
file. This file is described in CONFIG.TXT.
One of the thumbnail images is surrounded by a red rectangle.
This is the image currently displayed in the main image window.
There are three different ways to select a different image:
1. With the mouse: click on a thumbnail image or click on
the left or right arrow to scroll through.
2. With the keyboard: use the left and right arrow keys.
3. During receive: Each new image automatically goes into
the next image memory which is not locked.
Locking Images
--------------
Below each thumbnail image is a small icon that indicates
whether the image is locked or unlocked.
Image locking only prevents receive from replacing it. You
can still read a file into this image or modify it.
For example, you might prepare an image for your next
transmission. Click below the corresponding thumbnail image
to get the icon with a closed lock. This image will not
be clobbered by received images.
At least two images must be left unlocked for reception.
Memory Requirements & Speed
---------------------------
Pasokon TV version 2 used 320 x 240 images with about 32,000
colors. Each image required roughly 150K of memory.
Pasokon TV version 3 uses much higher quality 640 x 480
resolution with more than 16,000,000 colors. Naturally, these
higher quality images take more memory - almost a megabyte
each.
If you try to keep too many images for the amount of physical
memory, the computer will spend a lot of time swapping images
between disk and memory. The system will be very slow.
Suggested number of images are:
4 megabytes - only 2 images.
8 megabytes - 5 images.
16 megabytes - all 10 images.
This number can be changed by picking "Thumbnail Images" from
the Setup menu. Then click on the desired number of images to
keep in memory.
More information about how memory is used can be found in the
file MEMORY.TXT.
